What is SIBO?
Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth is an abnormal increase in the overall bacterial population in the small intestine — particularly types of bacteria not commonly found in that part of the digestive tract.
Symptoms include:
Loss of appetite
Abdominal pain
Nausea
Bloating
An uncomfortable feeling of fullness after eating
Diarrhea
The pain is often severe and the patient is unable to eat anything without feeling bloated and having stomach cramps. This can limit the range of foods tolerated by the patient to the point that they are limited to only a few foods.
The causes of SIBO are unclear, I have seen patients who were perfectly healthy react to some medication and not be able to eat normally since.
Of course stress and other lifestyle factors can compound the issue.
WHAT CAN HOMEOAPTHY DO?
As always, homeopathy looks at the individual and not the diagnosis, therefore it is important to take note of all the symptoms and determine which ones are the most important that need to be treated.
China when the main symptom is nausea
Lycopodium for gas and rumbling in the stomach
Aloe for diarrhea
Colocynthis for severe stomach cramps
Ipecac for sickness
