HOMEOPATHIC SAFFRON REMEDY

CROCUS SATIVUS AND ITS PROPERTIES

This is a beautiful yet under-used remedy.

We are all familiar with saffron, as in, the spice. Italy has a famour rice-based dish called “risotto allo zafferano”, which is saffron flavoured risotto.

Saffron is known as one of the most expensive spices, as it has to be picked and worked on by hand and it takes 150 flouwers to make one signle gram of the spice.

Other than its culinary use, saffron has been used for thousands of years as medicinal herb too.

The flower is native of South Asia: Kashmir, Iran, although it is now grown in Europe too.

In ancient times it was used as a relaxant, mixed with other herbs or mushrooms in religious cerimonies in order to reach altered states of mind.

Recently, modern medicine and herbology has “re-discovered” this flower:

A 22-week multicenter, randomized, double-blind controlled trial of saffron in the management of mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease published in 2010, showed 15 mg twice a day was as effective as donepezil (Aricept) at 5 mg twice a day, with significantly less vomiting as a side effect. Another 16-week, randomized and placebo-controlled trial also published in 2010, showed that 15 mg of saffron twice per day was both safe and effective in mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease. This study is all the more powerful when you consider that Aricept, while the standard of care for the management of Alzheimer’s symptoms, is actually a highly toxic chemical: Declaring Chemical Warfare On The Brain: Alzheimer’s Drugs Are Neurotoxicants.” (Wakeup-world.com)

It is also being used as anti-depressant and has other anti-inflammatory properties.
