Homeopathy for interstitial cystitis and UTI issues
We are all familiar with botix for cosmetic purposes: freezing the face to avoid age lines and have a smooth skin all over. Too bad about losing natural expressions and showing emotions, but at least, no wrinkles, right?
That’s totally fine, by the way, no judgement here.
Another use of botox is for therapeutic purposes. As botulinum is a toxin that paralises the nerves, it is routinely offered as therapy to alleviate the symptoms of conditions where a part of our body is over-active: sweat glands or bladder, for example.
I first heard of botulinum toxin as a child, when I had food poisoning from improperly home-preserved mushrooms. The toxin that affected me for months was botulinum. A few years later, my mother started getting injections of botulinum in her neck, to try and stop involuntary movements of her head, a very debilitating chronic condition that no doctor could figure out. At the time, botox was considered experimental therapy and my mother was one of the first patients to receive this treatment. I remember that the results were very hit and miss; stress played a major role in my mother’s condition, therefore, sometimes, the inection had no effect at all.
Today the success rate of botox treatment is around 70%. There are, of course, side effects and the treatment is not curative, it only deals with the symptoms.
One of my patients reached out to me after trying botox injections, antibiotics and many other modalities, both conventional and holistic, without much success. Her diagnosis of interstitial cystitis gives an idea of the type of symptoms she has been experiencing:
-frequent urge to urinate
-pressure in the bladder
-sharp pain in the groin area
As always, the emotional level is very important; past traumatic experiences can take many years to process and the body has its own memory. Counseling, psychotherapy are very valid forms of help, however, in my opinion, homeopathy is the only form of medicine that addresses physical and emotional issues at the same time and that’s why it is so effective.
One of the remedies for this type of condition is Lilium Tigrinum, the Lily of the Valley.
The right remedy can shift things and produce improvements, while also stir up past trauma and cause a return of old symptoms, albeit for a short time. It is important to monitor the case closely and support the internal organs at the same time, with nosodes, for example.
This is a slow and gentle treatment, allowing the patient to journey to self-awareness before feeling healed.
