The other name for this gemstone is Smoky Quartz.
For the longest time, this gemstone was simply considered “tainted quartz” and as such, disregarded completely.
The dark colour is not due to particular metals or minerals, like in other gemstones, but rather due to structure irregularities: natural irradiation has produced free silicon molecules that have disturbed the crystalline structure. This is of course part of the signature of the remedy: disturbance in the strucutre is typical of Silica, which makes up most types of quartz stones. Silica is “the great purifier”, that can push out what doesn’t belong, like splinters or toxins. Therefore, we are already familiar with this concept.
By extension of this concept, extraneous substances can be thoughts, feelings, particularly from the past. You know how sometimes intrusive and unwanted thoughts, memories, pop up unexpectedly in our head or dreams? We all have stuff we want to forget to some degree. For some people, it is a real issue: think about PTSD.
The beneficial effect of Morion is this “grounding” effect, that puts everything into persepctive, so that our ghosts don’t look so big and scary anymore.
The dark colour reminds us of the ground, the earth and indeed this gemstone is linked to the lower chakras in the base of the spine and abdomen. The urinary system and adrenals are included in this.
Because of its darker color, the Smoky Quartz crystal healing properties are well-suited to removing negartive or unwanted energy. The stone cleanses and purifies your energy field and allows you to hand over the energies you want to release to your crystal – whether it’s stress, anxiety, fear, sadness, or other negative vibrations. The supportive quality of this stone is what makes it such a great energy stabilizer, as well.
