GEMSTONE REMEDIES DAY 7: BLACK OBSIDIAN
Black obsidian is a natural old-world stone that humans have been utilizing since the dawn of time and it is one of the gemstones that fit today’s numbers, because today, December the 7th is actually a day with karma 8.
What does the number 8 mean in numerology?
The number 8 is first of all the symbol of infinity and it is also linked to the planet Saturn.
Saturn, in ancient mythology, is identified with Father Time and in astrology, it was considered the Great Malefic for a long time. Today it is thought of more as a Taskmaster: if you do your homework, if you take your time to do things properly, you will get your reward.
This can be a challenge, if we naturally tend to rush things and are not very patient. Patience is the name of the game here.
Time gives us the chance to look closely at ourselves, take out what we do not need, what is not serving us and focus on what matters. It is almost a purging or cleansing process and this brings us to Black Obsidian.
Obsidian is from volcanic origin, therefore more similar to glass in structure than crystals. This is the reason for its particular lightness of weight, compared with other crystals, due to the air bubbles in its formation.
The jagged edges of cut black obsidian made it a popular choice for spears, arrowheads, and more. Records show ancient Mayans using the stone as far back as 100 B.C.
Eventually, the stone took on a more spiritual purpose. The stone’s glass-like gleam found its way to the spiritual world. It was adopted by shamans and crystal-gazers, who believed that the stone gave seers a glimpse into otherworldly spiritual realms. It was also already a healing stone in ancient Egypt and other civilizations around the world.
Black obsidian is said to help flush out harmful toxins. Toxins are nothing new to the human body, as they can come from environmental conditions and lifestyle habits. However, some theorize that toxins can also build up in the body due to bad energy and negative emotions. It is also called the “grounding stone”, related to the root chakra, therefore, by extension, with the intestine, colon and rectum.
In homeopathy this stone can be used as cleansing or detoxing, particularly of the liver. It can stir up some unwanted aggravation symptoms, therefore it needs to be administered with care and close monitoring.
Obsidian has an affinity with the intestines and bowels, therefore it can be used in combination with bowel nosodes.
Similar to Jet, but with more internal emotional turmoil.
